His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, oversees the signing ceremony of the rehabilitation and enhancement agreement of the old medina of Salé

His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, presided on Monday, October 22, 2018, at the place “Riad El Aârous” in Marrakech, the ceremony of presentation of the measures taken for the realization of the projects registered under the program of valorization of the old medina of Marrakech, as well as the programs of rehabilitation and enhancement of the medinas of Salé, Meknès, Tétouan and Essaouira.

Mr. Jamaâ El Moâtassim, President of the commune of Salé, had the honor of signing, –jointly with MM. Abderrahmane Benali, governor of the Salé prefecture, and Hammani Amhzoune, president of the prefectural council of Salé, as representatives of the city of Salé, –the convention relative to the program of rehabilitation and enhancement of the old medina of Salé.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Abdelouafi Laftit, gave an address to His Majesty the King in which he announced that in consecration of the policy of HM the King for the preservation and development of ancient medinas, the medinas of Salé, Meknès, Tétouan and Essaouira have experienced the completion of several qualification projects whose impact differs from one city to another.

Thus, the projects realized in the old medinas of Salé and Meknès did not make it possible to reach the objectives expected and this is due, with regard to the old medina of Salé, with the substantial changes that knew its tissue urban and the deterioration of many of its historic monuments because of natural and human factors, added the minister, noting that the continuation of the rehabilitation and development of ancient Medinas of these two cities requires the mobilization of significant funds .

Mr. Laftit noted, in this sense, that in application of the High Royal Instructions, it was proceeded to the development of a program of rehabilitation and valorization of the old medina of Salé worth 900 MDH.

The Sovereign then chaired the signing ceremony of four conventions relating to the rehabilitation and development programs of the old medinas of Salé, Meknès, Tétouan and Essaouira.

The framework agreement relating to the rehabilitation and development program of the Medina of Salé was signed by MM. Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, Ahmed Toufiq, Minister of Habous and Islamic Affairs, Abdelahad Fassi Fihri, Minister of National Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy, Saïd Amzazi, Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohamed Sajid, Minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicraft and Social Economy, Rachid Talbi Alami, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Mohamed Laaraj, Minister of Culture and Communication. It has also been signed by MM. Abdelouahed Kabbaj, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Hassan II Fund for Economic and Social Development, Mohamed Mhidia, Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, Abdessamad Sekkal, President of the Regional Council of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Abderrahmane Benali, Governor of the Salé prefecture, Hammani Amahzoune, president of the Salé prefecture council, Jamaâ El Moâtassim, president of Salé commune, and Abderahmane Ifrassen, general director of Rabat Région Aménagements.
